Rick,
It can't really be this simple! Bailey has changed in just two days. He has been better
than we could ever have imagined. We have had four occasions when people knocked on our door and he runs a few steps and then stops and looks at us and walks to the door or not even that far with us. He comes the instant we call him. He doesn't need the word "off". On
the only occasion that he has gone into his well worn habit of
wanting to jump on Ron's brother, just "Bailey..." stopped him before
we got "off.. out of our mouths. He walked past a golden retriever
with such nonchalance I'm still not sure he didn't miss it because it
is sand colored.
What can we say? Hope we don't wake up from this dream. Although I
am sure there will be a few back sliding episodes at some point, this is heaven. Bailey is
currently the perfect dog.
Thanks again. Thank the "pups" and thank you. Ron and Bev
Rick, We truly enjoyed your visit to Conway High. You were wonderful! The dogs were amazing! Our kids were captivated. We are talking about doing a service project for Canine Angles. I hope that we can work together again soon. We love what you are doing. We love Canine Angles. Thanks again for sharing your talents with Conway High School AVID.

Dear Rick,
Thanks so much for sharing this story about Larry and Abby; We of course did meet Abby and are thrilled that she and Larry have found "true love"!!! I cried through the entire article!
If it were not for you and your consistent dedication these wonderful life saving events would not occur. We feel so very blessed to know you and are always inspired by your untiring efforts to truly save lives. Dianne
Mr. Kaplan,

GREETINGS RICK! JUST A SHORT NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT NITZIE IS DOING SO MUCH BETTER WITH HER BEHAVIOR SINCE YOU AND THE ANGELS VISITED US!
WE WISH YOU CONTINUED SUCCESS IN PROVIDING DISABLED VETERANS WITH SERVICE DOGS TRAINED BY SOME ONE AS QUALIFIED AS YOU. THERE IS SO MUCH NEWS THESE DAYS ABOUT HOW DISABLED VETERANS ARE FORGOTTEN. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ALL OF US REMEMBER THEM!
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NOMINATION FOR NON-PROFIT CHARITY OF THE YEAR. YOUR ORGANIZATION IS CERTAINLY MOST DESERVING OF THIS HONOR.
CINDIE
Hey Rick,
Tinker continues to amaze us and everyone who meets her! The other night we had some friends over and they remarked that she was the most well behaved dog they had ever seen! Take a bow, T! You deserve it! You take a bow too Rick! Without you none of this would be possible.
Everyday when we take our walk with T we smile and think of you and the kids. We
pass so many dogs that are barking and jumping around and the owners apologizing
for the commotion. We just smile and continue to walk with our Wonder Dog!
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!
Much love,
Erin, Jim and T the Wonder Dog of our hearts!
PS. Saw the video of Abby and Larry walking with his cane. Amazing ! Just
amazing. I love Abby. She is a sweet soul and I am so happy that she and Larry
have found each other thanks to you!
Rick
It was my honor and great pleasure to donate the 50/50 back to your wonderful organization. My husband is a Vietnam Vet who is very involved with the Patriot Guard riders. He has attended the funerals of far too many soldiers who have given their lives, and has honored the families who have lost their brave sons and daughters.
Your work to rescue these beautiful animals and give such an amazing gift to one of our precious veterans makes my heart sing.
I know there is a place for you in heaven with all the dogs you have given wings.
God bless

Rick: Jersey ran to the door to greet Bruce with big jumps and kisses, just as he greets me and my daughter. Bruce hasn't been this happy since Jersey arrived!! Thanks so much for training us correctly!

Rick,
It is my honor to stand in favor of your nomination. Very few in this New Millennium stand in line to help the unfortunate, the injured, the suffering, and those in pain.
You are one of my heroes. Good luck in this quest for recognition. You truly deserve it.
God bless you in your helping of our veterans...our heroes,
Dr. Don DeForge
Thank you for the words of encouragement and your time and guidance but most of all for bringing Abby into my life. She is a special gift and a wonderful dog. I will always strive to be worthy of her and of your trust in me. LM
Hi Rick
We walked today & practiced our commands. She did very well, and seems like a different dog. Had a few reminders only. We also practiced at home inside. I know we must keep this up, but she is responding & would soon forget if we quit. We will carry on. I like her much better at the moment.
Katie
Hi Rick,
Nice speaking with you and thanks for your time. I applaud you for what you are doing and keep up the great work. Hopefully our budgets will increase with each show and we'll have an opportunity to fly out and meet up with you to film a segment.
Our goal is that people will think shelter first when adopting their next companion animal and hopefully move people into action by volunteering, fostering or donate to help their local shelters.

Rick, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't think about you and how you changed our lives and TBelle's! She is such a wonderful, happy little dog and we can't thank you enough for helping us with that!
We really admire you and your mission of saving dogs and helping vets. We are happy to donate to your caus.

Dear Friends,
I just returned home from a week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. One day I went to the Wal-Mart in North Myrtle Beach and outside the main entrance there were people gathered around a really nice man with 6 incredibly well behaved dogs. He was seeking donations for Service Dogs for disabled vets. I pulled a bill out of my wallet and commented "What Well Behaved Dogs!" I offered the bill to the man & he pointed at one of the dogs & said "Give it to King". I offered the bill to the dog and he gently took it from my hand and went to the donation bucket & dropped it in. I was totally blown away by what that dog had just done. One second the bill was in my hand, the next second it was gone & I never felt the dog's mouth touch me. I can honestly say that that was the high point of my week in Myrtle Beach.
When I was able to get online I found this report that was recently on a Myrle Beach TV station
http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/15542278/canine-a
Sure enough it was a story about the same man & the same 6 dogs. "King" is the Golden Retriever that took my donation.
The really nice man's name is Rick Kaplan. He is a retired businessman from New York who has been a master dog trainer for the last 20 years. He now volunteers his time to train dogs, many that have been rescued from shelters that probably would have been euthanized. Needless to say, I am very impressed by this special person. Rescuing dogs, training them to be purposeful, & then finding them homes as Service Dogs for disabled veterans who need a companion & a helper. Wow!
Geoff
Rick,
We are thrilled for Riley and the incredible outcome. I am so happy for Riley & his new family. Sounds like a great match.

Mr. Kaplan,
Attached are 2 ad proofs that I would like, with your permission, to use on our

Again, let me say that meeting you and your canine team made my Christmas. It was truly the best gift ever!! May God continue to bless you as you share His love in such a special way.
Sincerely,

Rick,
Thank you so much for coming out. The presentation certainly did meet our hopes and expectations. The students really learned a lot of enjoyed meeting your wonderful dogs. I have heard such good feedback already from teachers, students, and parents. We think the work you do is amazing and it really hit home for us because of our recent encounter with the vets. Once again, thank you for your time and for the effort that goes into all you do!

Rick,
I know that we talked about Louise at the NMB parade and I agreed with you that she would be better with a couple and no other dogs. I never felt that I had to adopt her, I truly want her to be happy and enjoy life and thought that that would be best for her. Well I was wrong. Louise is the sweetest, kindest, most caring dog that I have ever been around. Since she has been here she has become a part of this pack and has deeply embedded herself into our family. Every day she enjoys life more and more, in fact I think she's starting to smile. We've worked very hard with her and she has come a long, long way. It breaks my heart to think that she could be adopted by someone else. I sincerely want to adopt he and keep her with my family, she has a great life here and I would love for her to stay. Thanks, Jim
Rick,
My family wants to thank you very, very much for allowing Louise to remain with us. Louise has a special place in our hearts and we will love her forever. We would also like to thank you for all the past and future training that you have provided us with, you are the absolute best trainer and the most compassionate dog person that we have ever meet. Please don't ever stop what you're doing, this world needs you.
Sincerely, Jim, Cathie, Mom, Lola, Blondie, Toby, Louise
Hi Rick,
The lesson today was great! I have a whole new attitude and I think that Kota likes having the “pack leader” to show him the way. It is very freeing to have the confidence to be with this dog and have him under my command. We still have a long way to go in training, but we are off to a great start!
Dave
Hi Rick,
Wanted to let you know how the Smuggler did post your visit.
A friend came to visit that afternoon and Smuggs obediently did not bark or jump on her. It has been miraculous. He does not bark in the ca any more.
The trip west was very pleasant. Smuggs did not bark and was very obedient.
We have been here just over a week. Smuggs has met three friends and it has gone well. It is still a work in progress. We recognize that, however, he is doing as well as his parents are doing. Thank you for your precious time and instruction. We wish the very best for you and the Canine Angels
Dianne, Al and Smuggs Fuqua
Zack is doing so well. He's a different dog. What a difference the right training and info makes. Thanks so much. Your pack is so enjoyable to be around . You and they have a lot of heart. We'll keep in touch. Later, Sunny and David
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! He sure did make us all proud!!!!! Rick, you get ALL the credit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Francesca
How amazing !!!! Rick you are wonderful for standing by us and helping that lost boy. He could never know how lucky he is.
Thank you Love Cher
Rick ,
It is unbelievable that you have found Blue an inside home . You are a gift to this earth and all dogs . Thank you
for seeing that "something special" in Blue. Francesca saw it in him and wouldn't
give up . Lucky for Blue that he ran into the right people. Have a wonderful
thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing you when you get home.

"If I can just
keep tying through my tears I'll manage to extend this sincere and
heartfelt THANK YOU to Rick. He never would have stood a chance
without you. Blue was one of a zillion "Brunswick County black dogs"
(strike 1) with severe anxiety issues (strike 2-100)...hardly what any
potential adoptive family would want nor have the capacity to
handle. At only 8 mos old he seemed damaged beyond repair. To hear
about this transformation in such a short period of time is
simply incredible. To put is simply...I am in awe!
Francesca
"Hi Rick,
We had another great day and a good beach run this morning. LaKota
loves the beach! He is so free there. I am looking forward to being
able to take him off leash on the beach, but he gets distracted easily at this
point. He is the perfect dog for me! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving." Dave King
"It’s Thanksgiving Day and I am thankful for all of God’s
blessings…. Including my new best friend, LaKota. This dog represents
unconditional love which is returned in kind. Thank you so much Rick!" Dave
"I LOVE YOU RICK

"What a sucess story !!!!!
Thank you Rick . And thank
you for not giving up on him !!!!! We are proud to be working with you to
save the doggies. Truly an amazing story.
Love you,"

Rick,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your entire family of co-workers at Canine-Angels. Great work! Never stop what you are doing. The Super Committee could not cut into our deficit...you and your team are doing more to help our veterans than the entire government bureaucracy is helping our veterans and our country. This is a non-partisan statement and the blame is on both political parties. Congrats to you and shame on them!
Take care and Happy Holidays,

I have no words to express our thanks to you for the time and effort
you spent with us today. The most terrifying thing we are dealing
with is how we were letting this poor sweet little dog down and not
giving him the security he needed. We want to assure you that your
time will not be in vain. We will continue working with Bailey until
he is as secure as he should have been all along.
Your pack is wonderful. Such beautiful happy animals. Growing up
with dogs and grieving when we lost each precious one and falling
madly in love with every one that came into the family set the
pattern for a lifetime of loving dogs. We would not have traded this
day and what we learned for any amount of money or time.

Lady's story about her trip to New Hampshire is marvelous! Thank you for posting it. What grand discoveries she made, what extraordinary changes from her accustomed life, how exciting it was for her and Bode! I loved every word. I'm now Lady's "loyal friend Paulette from Manhattan," having just moved here from Kent, NY.

This letter was placed under my wiper, and is important to me because it shows our work is touching people all over the SC/NC area. I thank Amber for taking the time to write it, and for the inspiration to continue on our course to save dogs, and to improve the lives of our disabled American veterans.

HI Rick,
Jim and I took TinkerBelle to the craft fair today and she was SPECTACULAR!!!!! She was really good with the other dogs, and did not mind children petting her. She was a little shy with adults, but still let them pet her! We could have never done this with Tink before you came into our lives! It hasn't even been 3 weeks since you and your lovely pack came to visit us! We would not have believed this to be possible! This was her first craft fair, and there will be many more outings! We must have heard, "Oh, look, what an adorable dog!" at least 100 times! She still is a work in progress, but she is such a good student, and gets better everyday! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Here is a picture that I took today of Jim (Proud Poppa) and TinkerBelle at the fair! What a WONDERFUL day!!!!!
Hope your day was great!

Dear Rick, King, Fred, Ginger, Layla and Leroy,
Zack is now the talk of the neighborhood. Our friends cannot understand his behavioral changes. They think he must be on drugs. We have referred several people to you who have dogs with behavioral problems. In fact, our daughter, Genna, who lives in Atlanta, may have contacted you about her dog, Max. They are planning a visit to Litchfield Beach the first weekend in October . We understand that Max is an incessant barker, as well as chewing on Zack's ears unmercifully. Hopefully, you will be able to help them, if she has contacted you. Thanks for all you have done, and good luck. David and Sunny

Hi, Rick
We were very pleased with the session yesterday and were truly amazed at how much progress you made with Smuggler in such a short time. If we can stick to the techniques you showed us, Smuggler will no doubt be a much happier dog since he has been relieved of his Alpha responsibilities.
Last night we were able to eat our dinner on trays in the den (as we usually do) and allow Smuggs-with intermittent corrections-to remain in the room with us instead of putting him in the adjacent room with the sliding glass door closed. As long as he can see us; he seems to tolerate that separation.
He slept very soundly through the night-either because he was very tired or was no longer on guard duty!!!
Again, thanks for your help with our little golden. We look forward to seeing you and your pack again soon. You and your kids are WONDERFUL!!!
Best wishes,
Al & Dianne

I came to your house with my uncle, Hugh Robinson, a couple of weeks ago to meet you and your wonderful service dogs. I just wanted to tell you that it was an indeed an honor to meet you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing for the veterans. I know many veterans with PTSD and they need all the love and understanding that we can give them. Thank you.

Dear Rick,
About a month ago you came with your dogs to our Blue Star Mothers meeting, of which I am a new member. I want to say THANK YOU for all you do for disabled veterans with this program, which I could see was a labor of LOVE ! You and your beautiful dogs are amazing, as are all of your foster families who do training. I have sent you a donation and I wish you continued success with your valuable and needed program. G-d Bless You! Sincerely, Adele Cathrall
Rick,
Thanks, I have never meet such a talented and smart trainer, you should be commended for the work you're doing and it's an honor to work with you.

Mr. Kaplan,

So my dear Rick, you've done it again, gained a little more footing in your miracle walk to help others. The article was well done and included not nearly enough, but a goodly amount of your desire and ability to rehabilitate and train dogs for their intended purpose in the world, which is to be Man's best friend. Bravo! Oh, and did I notice "6" at the cafe lunch? I try to keep up with the web site - happy you've found Shannon.

I finally squinted my way through the Canine Angel's article. Fabulous and informative. Kudos to Jan for a beautiful well-written story. The gifts you have afforded my Ben- hope, happiness and freedom will not go unrecognized. Everytime I see Rahja, I am reminded of your endless, selfless time and energy. I look at her and still cannot believe the transformation that has occurred in both her and Ben. Ben has shared with me that he wld like to become a trainer for Canine Angels. You might ask him about his desire if not already. I am sure when you receive this, u will either be in the midst of or returning from making a life deposit in another man, woman, boy or girl's life. Their footsteps are guided- and so are yours.
Peace be with you,
Donna.
7/3 Hi, Rick, Congratulations on being part of South Carolina Living Magazine's article on service dogs and who trains them. It's excellent publicity for you and Canine Angels, which you richly deserve! I loved the latest entry in Lady Grams about Lady, Bode and the clothes dryer. The humor of those journal entries is extraordinary. My compliments to Lady's "associate writer." Paulette Barrett, your fan in Kent, NY.
Wonderful article! Can't wait to get my copy in the mail. Thank You for all you do.
Charlotte, Mom and Prince Winston
Rick -- this totally took me to a new place. Just loved it and want to start a NY chapter of Canine Angels with you. Wow -- first of all - my family needs a trg. session so that all four humans can get on the same page in our doggie care and mgmt -- that would be an immediate benefit for Stella and Spot. Then I'd love to help make this happen here -- possibly by helping with grants and fundraising but also as a hands-on participant in some aspect of dog training, fostering -- definitely so rewarding...
Best to you -- so inspiring to read about your work and understand a little bit more of your journey,
Sharon

Hi Rick,
Just wanted you to know that Furby did so well at the beach today. He wanted so badly to bite an ankle, but I pinned him down, used the "ch" sound along with the "good boy" praises, so he just laid there looking at all those ankles. LOL, Jane

Rick - tonight we went for our bike ride and two dogs were being walked - I stopped to let them pass by us and she looked at them with curiosity but was not trying to drag me after them. When they went by to the left I continued our ride to the right - Bindi turned to see where they went but continued our ride/walk with no problem. Then up ahead I saw a larger dog so I got off the bike - made her sit, as the dog passed in front of us and I could see she was ready to start carrying on I gave her a good swift grab at her neck. She was startled and the moment (and the dog) passed without incident. On our way back we passed a big standard poodle and I just stayed on the opposite side of the street and kept going with no problems. I was thrilled - now instead of dreading another dog out on a walk I look forward to it as an opportunity!!! Also at dinner - I had fed her and we were out on the porch eating - she was sitting next to the table waiting for scraps - she does this little whoooooooooo thing when she thinks you have forgotten her and when she did I made her stay on her bed on the other side of the porch. This took about ten times (you would of done it in one) but I stayed with it and she finally stayed. When we were done eating I then put the scraps in her bowl. Around ten my husband decided to have a dish of strawberry's and she was up on the couch in his face. I made her get down (she sulked off - walked around the couch and sat on the floor - and stayed there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) when he was done I invited her back onto the couch.
We have an appointment with the vet for a check up this afternoon so I am looking at this as another teaching lesson for Bindi. I have also enlisted my neighbor with a big dog to bring her dog out so we can walk by her and 'practice'
My biggest problem is my husband who is a hard headed Italian who thinks I am breaking her spirit - I told him Bull @#$%!!!!!!!!!!! He was impressed when he could eat his strawberry's in peace. Too bad you don't train husbands!!!!!

Hi Rick-
Just wanted to say thank you so much for coming by with the 'angels' on Friday. I was amazed that there were five dogs in my house and not a peep from Bindi. I must say that my heart was in my throat thinking she would snap at one of your dogs but I put my faith in you and was not disappointed. I have been following your instructions and she is walking very nicely on the leash. Last night we took a bike ride on my tryke and she saw a little dog and wanted to run up to it but I gave her a correction and we continued on our way (minding our own business - even though the little dog was yapping at her)
Because she is a pit bull and the breed is so misunderstood it is very important to me that Bindi be a model canine citizen and mind her manners. She is a sweetheart and loves people but you helped guide me in the right direction so I can help her mind her manners around larger dogs. After you left she was exhausted and took a long nap -
I got such a kick out of King closing my kitchen cabinet doors and draws - now if you could teach them to vacuum !!!!!!!!!!
You have such a gift and are using it to such an advantage - saving dogs and people.
I'll spread the word - I have already given your info to a neighbor that has a lab with 'issues'.
Mary Ann and Bindi

I had concerns about a rescue we had acquired from New Hanover Humane. His name is Monty, a five year old male Wheaton Terrier.
Mr. Kaplan and his crew came to our home for about three hours last month to work with us to help Monty reach his potential. He was very professional but kind. He showed my husband and I the corrections we needed to accomplish to facilitate Monty's growth .
We have tried to be consistent in our approach to what we saw as negative behavior. Monty likes to be alpha and we needed to relieve him of that responsibility. He has done very well and as we continue with the techniques demonstrated by Mr.Kaplan, he is becoming a very well mannered member of our pack.
Mr. Kaplan is a very accomplished canine trainer and would be a help to most dog owners. It was a very positive experience.
Alan was walking Monty yesterday morning when on three separate occassions he encountered fellow walkers with dogs. In all three cases the other dogs were barking and pulling on their leads at Monty. Monty sat and was silent, no attempt to pull and go after the other dogs. All three owners remarked about Monty's excellent behavior. Two of the dogs went at each other practically dragging both owners who are small while the dogs are big.
Monty plateaus but then makes quantum leaps. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Rick,
I can’t even begin to explain how some of your veterans’ letters to you have touched my heart. So many are amazing people who could easily have crawled under a rock after their horrific experiences and injuries, but chose, instead, to persevere. Sometimes we question God and our faith, but I know He has a plan for all of us, and everything happens for a reason, even if sometimes it seems senseless… I do know that you have been given a gift from God - you have the amazing talent and ability to work with dogs that have never before been trained, and many of which have been neglected and abused. The success of Canine Angels is giving our veterans a reason to live.

"Many thanks to Rick Kaplan from Canine Angels for his help today at the Herding Cats Farm at Whiskers Animal Rescue & Sanctuary. His patience, kindness and expertise is helping to bring peace and harmony back to our home. He worked wonders with her, I almost cried! She is learning so fast! She is brilliant! Rick is so good with dogs, it was an amazing experience!"Daren Watson, Loris, SC
"I have had the unique opportunity to help train and foster one of Rick's "Rescues". Bourbon is now with his new companion, Matthew and the relationship that is being formed is truly a miracle, not only for Matthew, but for Bourbon as well. I was given such support, caring, and knowledgeable information about training and caring for a service dog that will be invaluable for the rest of my life. Rick has a talent for understanding people and dogs and a gift to be able to match them to each other. He truly is in tune to human and dog behavior, speaks their language and has a heart with no limit. I look forward to the day I can assist Rick again."

"Thanks, Rick, for your visit to see whether we can foster a dog for you. It is clear that we cannot at this time, but your work with my dogs has simply blown my mind, as I suffered with their behavior for 5 years, and you had them laying side by side, nearly asleep, in 5 minutes! You have inspired us to get to work, and put our home back in good canine order. Thank you."
Jessica Trader, Calabash, NC
"We truly enjoyed meeting you yesterday and believe that we made a great decision to get your help. We are working with Sadie and she seems to be getting it pretty well. Still wants to run from us and we have to chase her down but assume that will get better as we keep working on putting her at the bottom of our pack. Walking her on the lease with the "p" loop is wonderful! Working on the "come" command. We're excited. Thanks for your help!"
Molly Wilkinson, North Myrtle Beach
“The level of service at Canine Angels, Inc. is fantastic. I am beyond impressed by the professionalism and canine skills that Rick displays. He trained our dog, and better - he trained us!- where several other trainers have failed over and over, and he did it in 1 lesson! Thank you!”
Jennifer Neilson, Myrtle Beach, SC
“In this day and age, it’s hard to find a trainer you can trust. Canine Angels, Inc. was recommended to me by a friend, and now I know why – the quality of service I received was outstanding. Keep up the good work!”
Richard Belson, Longs, SC
"Rick Kaplan is the best animal behaviorist we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Rick has done so much to help bring balance and peace to our pet's lives, and for that we are truly grateful. Rick can relate to dogs on a level which only a God given gift bestows, and we will never forget what he has done for us and our loving pets."

“I didn’t think I needed an assistance dog. Then I saw them in action, helping other people with disabilities… Having a Canine Angels service dog has really changed my life around 180 degrees: I can finally sleep at night, I can comfortably talk with other people, and I smile now more than ever”
Sergeant Michael Brown, Pompano Beach, FL
"If I was not there to see it, I would not have believed it: in less than an hour, Rick Kaplan took my dog, Ellie, from a stressed out alpha to a calm and relaxed pack member. I have to say, more of the training was for me than for the dog."
Anne Parro, Aynor, SC
"Hi ya all!Miss Tess used her modified step up to get into the car this morning. I am pleased to announce that she and I did our 1 1/2 miles once again. Rick did a wonderful job of adjusting her ramp to allow Tess a secure step up. Have a great day!"
Ronna Graham, Carolina Shores, NC
"The most incredible experience of my life, and I am sure of Hiccup's. In less than an hour Rick had him joyfully obeying commands he has been ignoring for 5 years"
